About Skelmersdale Veterans Association

Skelmersdale Veterans Association Based at The Buffs Community Club, Ormskirk Road, Skelmersdale was Established on 15th January 2017. The association is made up of all three forces Army, Navy and Air Force. We meet every second Sunday of the month at 2pm


We are open to any current or previous members of the armed forces both male and female, plus members of all ranks. The association are also working with a number of partnerships already like Wigan Athletic Community Trust, Hotter Shoes Company, ICAN, Lancashire Police, Evermoor Hub Community Centre, Local Primary Schools & Colleges


The new association will be holding a number of high profile events including a concert on the weekend of The Battle of The Somme on the 30th June 2017. The key theme for organising the event is the importance of involving young people in helping with the design and implementation of remembrance activity.

The concert will be for the whole community, youths and adults alike all celebrating as one, followed by a Dinner for veterans, their families and friends on July 1st in honour of all those who fell during The Battle of The Somme in 1916 and taking place at the Evermoor Hub Community Centre Digmoor


The association will also be organising an annual Armed Forces themed event on the 22 - 23 July 2017 for the local community along with a Remembrance Parade, The day will include Military Vehicles, Military Hospital, Climbing Wall, Fun Fair for all the family, Tug-of-war, Five-a-side Football matches, Morris Dancers plus other activities for all the family to enjoy.

Alan Lewis


The Chairman Alan Lewis MBE former 1st Battalion Royal Green Jackets. Alan joined the Army in May1973 serving in Germany, Cyprus and Hong Kong, he was also a member of the Parachute Display Team for Seven years before leaving the army in 1985.

Alan received The Member of The British Empire In 2015 for Services to The Community and Young People

Alan Moore


The Secretary Alan Moore is 54 years old and joined the Royal Air Force in 1979 straight from the Air Cadets where he reached the rank of Sergeant which is what inspired him to join up and train to become an RAF regiment gunner.  Alan served on 2 tours of Northern Ireland, spent 3 years in Cyprus and was also involved in operation desert storm.

Alan’s biggest moment was during the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain where he paraded with HM Queens colour squadron as guard of honour on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. 

Alan left the RAF in 1990
